Special December Event   at The Rathgar Bookshop!   Thursday 8th Dec At 7.30pm Wine & mince pies served	Come and meet Tim Thurston Author of Gloria An Introduction to 1000 years of European Sacred Music His new book to accompany his programme GLORIA ON RTE Lyric fm	Following on from the success of his weekly Sunday morning RTÉ Lyric FM ‘Gloria’ radio programme, Associated Editions are pleased to announce Tim Thurston’s book & CD ‘Gloria – An Introduction to 1000 years of European Sacred Music.' This book has a special Christmas theme and tells the story of European sacred music from earliest times to the present day, interspersed with 20 pen portraits of the key composers, including Hildegard of Bingen, Byrd, Bach, Handel, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Elgar, Britten and Pärt. It also incorporates a CD of some of the best of their Christmas music from the renowned Hyperion catalogue and is sumptuously illustrated with Sacred Art for Christmas from Irish collections, some published for the first time. Images in this book include sacred art from Trinity College Dublin, the Hunt Museum, the Ulster Museum, the National Gallery of Ireland, Waterford Museum of Treasures, the Chester Beatty Library and Glenstal Abbey.
	Tim’s broadcasting career began in the 1980s compiling and presenting several series for RTÉ on Early and Choral music and Contemporary Jazz. He ran 5 International Dublin Early Music Festivals from 1988 to 1992 and writes and lectures on a wide range of musical subjects. Since RTÉ Lyric FM began in 1999 Gloria, his weekly Sunday morning programme has built up a wide and appreciative listenership at home and abroad.
